How to Make Dua? Conditions and Etiquette
Dua is the servant turning to the Lord, asking of Him and laying bare his state. Allah calls His servants to supplication, saying 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you' (Ghafir 40:60). Dua is the essence of worship and the believer's strongest spiritual support.
The etiquette of dua
It is good to begin dua with praise of Allah and blessings upon the Prophet. Eating lawful food, turning to Allah with humility, and being persistent in asking are means to acceptance. It is recommended to raise the hands and pray humbly, between hope and fear.
The best times for acceptance
Supplications made at certain times are reported to be closer to acceptance. The pre-dawn hours, the state of prostration, the time between the adhan and iqamah, Friday, and the fasting person's moment of breaking the fast are among them. Dua while it rains is also counted among the favoured times.
Examples of accepted dua
The supplications found in the Quran and Sunnah are the finest examples; for instance 'Rabbana atina' asks for good in this world and the next together (Al-Baqarah 2:201). A person may also pray sincerely in their own words. What matters is that what is asked for is lawful and good.
Advice and points to note
A dua not being answered at once should not lead one to despair; acceptance may be delayed or granted in a better form. Staying away from sin and the unlawful removes barriers to dua. Following the prayer times makes it easier to catch favoured moments like the pre-dawn hour or after the adhan; our app's prayer-time reminders can help with this.
